What is Parkinson Disease?
Parkinson disease is a progressive neurological disorder that results in deterioration of neurons in a region of the brain that controls movement
Parkinson disease is caused by the death of the nerve cells in the substaia nigra, which produce the neurotransmitter dopamine. |
Symptoms:
• Resting trember
• Increased muscle tone (rigidity)
• Slowness of movement
• Shuffled gait
• Difficulty initiating movement
• Difficulty with balance

THE BRAIN MUCSLE WORKOUT PROGRAM SEVERAL BENEFITS
The Brain Muscle Workout program is a progressive phisycal exercise program. The individualized programfor clinics will include a personalized programconsisting ofover 350 different exercises structred in 9 different stages throughout the year.By continuously teasing the body with balance and coordination challenges, the prgram simultaniously stumalates the brain, mucsles and nervous system
The Brain Musle Workout Program stresses the importance of several
powerful concepts while exercising:
- An Intense brian activity and the positive effects of
multitasking(raising heels and arms at the same time)
- Moderate cardiovascular and muscular activity.
- Neural Plasticity(changing constantly the program). The program will
consist of over 350 exercises structured in 9 progressive levels.
- Progressive Proprioception exercises will strengthen the soft
tissues of the different individuals.
- Constant change of the program will surprise the individual having
to guess movements forcing the muscular, nervous ann cardiovascular
system to work in harmony together. |
BACKGROUND AND EDUCATION: John Martin is Professor of Clinical Neurobiology and Behaviour(in psychiatry)and holds a joint appointment in the Department of Neurosurgery. He received his Ph.D. in neurophysiology from columbia University, where he studied spinal and cortical somatic sensory mechanisms, and subsequently received postdoctoral training in motor control. |

Professor John Martin gives his opinion in

But it was not enough to know the change was there.Gonzalez-Wallace
wanted ti know why."When i started seeing these unusual results, I
found that no matter how much i was reading , I needed a
professional opinion," says the trainer.John Martin,PhD, a
neuroscientist at Columbia University, immediatly recognized the
brain benifits of Gonzalez-Wallace's workouts.
"Michael's exercises require new coordination patterns, " says
Martin."They seem to mix a hallenging posture requiring balace
together with a limb movement. This may be similar to creating a
cognitive reserve by learning a new language later in life, or
leaning to play musical instrument. The exercises likely drive more
neural activity in more partd of the brain. This can strengthen neural
connetions in the action systems of the brain.Perhaps, the more you
need to think during a complex movement, the more you recruit
connecitons in the cognitve systems of the brain. While speculative,
this may be a way for exercises that require you to think about your
moves to benifit parts of the brain for memory and for learning
facts." |
The program is currently being reviewed and endorsed by psychiatrist,
MD Dr Gregory Lombardo.
According to DR Lombordo, who is board certified in adult, child and
adolescent psychiatry and is a diplomate of the American Society of
Clinical Psychopharmacology Gonzalez Wallace's brain muscle workout
program may produce benefits in three different areas;
motor
skiils,Psychiatric Benefits and Cardiovascular benefits. |
 |
The results tat can be expected are:
1.-Greater Physical strength and endurance
2.-Improved cardiovascular function and control of weight gain
3.-Improvement in balance and coordinaton
4.-An improvement in their perception of their body and their body |

I just tried the “Braion Muscle Workout” and it wasn’t a crossword puzzle. It was a fitness DVD by New York City trainer Michael Gonzalez-Wallace that was actually worthwhile because its designed to make you think a workout.

Hey Michael!
I have been keeping up with the workouts and stretches. I did the new stretches you sent and was able to hold them all for a nice long stretch. The kicks and leg crosses were easier with the chair and I was able to do them just fine. My back hasn’t been hurting. It is funny with how MS works with me… some days I feel like I can do anything no problem and other days I can pains, feel exhausted, have a heavy head, muscle stiffness, etc.Since I have been doing your program I can honestly say I am having more better days than not. I want to improve my balance and get rid of my “clumsiness” in addition to strengthening my body |
